I really like this app, and I have dozens of apps to take your pulse. What is unique about this app, is it combines a breathing trainer with a coherence factor for your Pulse Rate.
Most pulse monitors give you an average of your Pulse Rate and some let you see the numbers change every second or so. This app recognizes that your Pulse Rate is faster when you inhale, and slower when you exhale, and uses that awareness to present a graph showing your change in pulse rate over time.
The main graph, however, displays how closely your breathing pattern and heartbeat are correlated, or in coherence. The longer you work with the app, monitoring your pulse, the more coherent your breathing and heart rate become. Presumably, this is healthy.
The app also has the option to let you listen to your heart beat pulse rate so you could use biofeedback techniques to slow it down. I find the continuous beep a bit annoying though, and dont use this.
What I would like is if the developer would add the ability to turn on audio instructions like "inhale", "hold", and "exhale" as cues for the breathing cycle. Alternatively, there could be a gentle ramping up sound followed by a sliding down audio cue to help keep your breathing on track while closing your eyes and not watching the monitor. Finally, an audio tone or the word "coherence" would be great when weve hit the 100% mark of heart rate/breathing coherence.
All in all this is a powerful and unique approach to taking your pulse. I highly recommend it.
